Congratulations to Joel Hughes, Ph.D., a professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences, who was just awarded research support of $20,000 from the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors and Million Hearts庐 Advancing Cardiac Rehabilitation Mini Grant program. The grant entitled 鈥淚ncreasing Enrollment using an Automated Phase 1 CR Order in the EPIC EMR鈥 is in collaboration with Adrianne Ulrich, ACSM-CEP, AACVPR-CCRP, EIM (PI) from University Hospitals and is designed to increase enrollment in cardiac rehabilitation, which is typically very low (about 20% of eligible patients). The research support will implement an automated Phase 1 (inpatient) cardiac rehabilitation order in the EPIC electronic medical record and compare subsequent enrollment in Phase 2 (outpatient) cardiac rehabilitation at two of University Hospitals of Cleveland's cardiac rehabilitation sites. The goal of the Million Hearts' mini grant program is to try new and innovative approaches to increasing enrollment in cardiac rehabilitation that are scalable and that can be widely implemented if they are successful. Congratulations to Joel Hughes and Adrianne Ulrich for acquiring support for this innovative project!
