Community Partner Spotlight: University Hospitals Portage Medical Center

University Hospitals (UH) has longstanding history of extraordinary support for both 性福五月天 University and the College of Public Health. CPH students work with UH in a variety of ways, including internships, volunteering, and shadowing opportunities. Together, these initiatives create a strong partnership that benefits students, the hospital, and the surrounding communities. Robert Naymik serves as the business development manager as well as the lead for the community outreach and education team for UH Portage Medical Center. In this position, he plays a key role in integrating public health students directly into the mission of the Medical Center located in Ravenna. The students benefit greatly from his guidance, passionate commitment to the college, and inclusion in UH Portage鈥檚 extended schedule of community health events.

Our Community Outreach & Education Team works with CPH students in a variety of public health settings and programming throughout the year.

WHAT YEAR DID YOU BEGIN WORKING WITH CPH STUDENTS?

We began working with CPH students consistently in 2023 and have continued to collaborate with the College of Public Health since that time, celebrating the success of the Mobile Flashes program.

APPROXIMATELY HOW MANY CPH STUDENTS HAVE YOU WORKED WITH AT UH PORTAGE MEDICAL CENTER?

We have had the privilege of working with dozens of CPH students across a variety of community programs here at the hospital and across Portage County, directly impacting the communities we serve.

TELL US ABOUT AN INTERESTING PROJECT CPH STUDENTS WORKED ON WITH YOU.

One of the most impactful programs has been our Summer Farmers Market Program that is a collaboration with Raven Packs, KSU CPH Mobile Flashes, and UH Portage Medical Center. This program allows a farmers market 鈥榚xperience鈥 and provides access to locally grown produce for underserved populations across Portage County. We pair nutrition education, healthy recipes, and health screenings to maximize our community impact.

We would highly recommend CPH students, as they are professional, prepared, and ready to serve the community.

HOW HAVE CPH STUDENTS BEEN ABLE TO ASSIST WITH FULFILLING YOUR MISSION?

The CPH Students and Public Health Program continues to produce high caliber students who are prepared to enter the workforce and make positive contributions to the greater communities and organizations they serve.

TELL US ABOUT WHAT A TYPICAL DAY MAY LOOK LIKE IN YOUR CURRENT ROLE.

A typical day from a community outreach & education standpoint usually involves some level of planning, coordinating, and program delivery to meet an underserved need of the community. This could be an education presentation, biometric health screening, corporate workplace lunch & learn, or assisting with a food pantry across the county.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND.

I graduated from The University of Akron, with a BS degree majoring in Athletic Training for Sports Medicine. I am married with two children and one grandchild. We live in Streetsboro, OH.
