For her, RecWell has been a meaningful community and an opportunity to grow as a leader outside of the classroom. Ashley gets the chance to step away from her academics and build skills that will stay long after graduation.

Ashley shares, 鈥淥ne of the nicest parts about working here is having a community that isn鈥檛 only focused on school.鈥 It has been refreshing for her to take a break and find a sense of belonging within RecWell. Balancing these areas has made her experience in the department especially impactful as a physics major 鈥 a field that often has limited opportunities for people-focused experiences.

Her favorite part of working at the Adventure Center is the people. 鈥淓veryone I work with, I can call a friend,鈥 Ashley emphasizes. Both her coworkers and supervisors have all made her feel consistently supported and welcomed. Being 鈥渞eally nice and helpful鈥 throughout her time here. The encouragement she鈥檚 received has played a crucial role in helping her become more confident in her abilities as a supervisor.

Ashley has developed significant transferable skills that support her future career goals within her role. She mentions how difficult it is to get hands-on experience in the physics department, and at RecWell, she has become a better communicator and leader to all. Additionally, she has learned to stay organized, think quickly, and be vigilant in fast-paced situations where effective decision-making is needed. 鈥淧roblems come up quickly, so learning how to go through options and choosing the best one has strengthened my critical thinking,鈥 Ashley highlights.

Ashley was immensely proud to be a part of planning RecWell鈥檚 Climbathon event in Fall 2025, which raised over $1,000 for various charities. Beyond fundraising, she mentions how rewarding it is to watch those she teaches grow. 鈥淪eeing clients become more confident in their climbing skills and realize they can do it is really comforting,鈥 she says.

Outside of the Adventure Center, Ashley has previously served as president of the Society of Physics Students and was also given the Student Leader Award from the College of Arts and Sciences for the Fall 2025 semester.

Beginning her work at RecWell in the summer and being promoted to supervisor in the fall exemplifies Ashley鈥檚 dedication and leadership as an exceptional employee. Her advice to students considering working with RecWell is clear: 鈥淕o for it and try it out. The people alone make it worth it, and the positions here give you room to grow both professionally and personally.鈥

A fun fact about Ashley? She is also a decent ice skater!
