�Ը�� Names Wendy Turner as WKSU's New Executive Director and General Manager

Following a national search, Wendy Turner has been selected to serve as the new executive director and general manager of WKSU, �Ը�� University’s award-winning NPR-affiliated radio station. Turner currently serves as vice president of digital and technical operations at Chicago Public Media. She will begin her new role at WKSU on Oct. 31, 2016.

�Ը�� Introduces First Gluten-Free Dining Hall on a College Campus

University to hold Sept. 7 event to celebrate achievement At the start of the 2016 academic year, �Ը�� University becomes the first university in the country to feature an entirely gluten-free dining hall on campus. �Ը�� restructured Prentice Café after administrators noticed that the number of students arriving on campus with gluten intolerance was rising each year. The new dining facility will meet the ever-increasing demand for gluten-free foods.

In observance of Veterans Day, �Ը�� University will be closed Nov. 11 and will reopen Nov. 12.

The University Library will be open until 10 p.m. with .
The Student Recreation and Wellness Center will have adjusted hours – 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.

�Ը�� University’s annual Veterans Day observance will include a flag-raising ceremony conducted by a joint color guard from the university’s Army and Air Force ROTC programs.

Statewide Tornado Drill to Be Conducted Wednesday, March 18

Ohio is conducting a statewide tornado drill at 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18. �Ը�� University will be participating in this test.

�Ը�� Remembers May 4, 1970, With 56th Commemoration

This year’s May 4 Commemoration, to be held May 1-4, 2026, will include special remembrances of John Cleary, one of the nine wounded students, and Jerry M. Lewis, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Sociology, who served as a faculty marshal during the campus shootings and worked tirelessly to ensure that the legacy of May 4 would endure.

ADVISORY: �Ը�� University Board of Trustees Meeting, March 4

The �Ը�� University Board of Trustees will hold its next regular business meeting at 11 a.m. on March 4 in the Center for Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement on the Kent Campus.

�Ը�� University will hold its annual Veterans Day observance on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. on the Student Green at Risman Plaza.

The outdoor program, Honoring All Who Serve, will include a flag-raising ceremony conducted by a joint color guard from the university’s Army and Air Force ROTC programs, remarks from �Ը�� President Beverly Warren and guest speakers. Retired Petty Officer 1st Class Mark Gainer, who currently serves as president of the �Ը�� Veterans Club, will be the guest speaker.

All are invited to come and pay tribute to America’s veterans. A special invitation is extended to �Ը�� faculty, staff, students and community members who are veterans, active service members or who have family members in the military.

A reception in the Kent Student Center Kiva lobby will follow the brief program. In the event of inclement weather, the rain location will be the Kent Student Center Kiva.
